Visitor Station and Snorkel Tours

In addition to reviving critical coral reef ecosystems, EMC’s coral restoration programme provides an incredible educational platform. Our Ten Pound Bay nursery at Green Island was designed to make corals and the process of coral restoration accessible to a variety of visitors. An educational visitors station has been installed behind the beach and incorporates a wide range of information including coral anatomy, coral reef ecology, human impacts on reef ecosystems, and the process of coral restoration. The station also provides a map of the nursery area and instructions for a self-guided snorkel tour.

Underwater but close to shore, a steel table in less than 2.5 meters (8 feet) of water houses a diversity of coral species so that children and visitors who are not comfortable swimming long distances can still get an up-close and personal look at stony corals. The table showcases a range of coral colors and shapes, and has also become a favored shoaling location for several species of fish, making it a beautiful introduction into the world of coral reefs. Many of our outplanted corals can also be found less than 15 meters (50 feet) from shore. Please be incredibly mindful of feet and fins and do not attempt to stand up on the reef or table.
